id say it was a spring unseating then... mine makes an almighty crack when this happens...

you might want to check you rear as well, sometimes the crack noise can seem like its coming from the front but is not... and if if you were going up a steep hill/bank?? this is where all the load would have been..

Be suprise if it was anything in the back as the noise happened just as the front wheel touched down. Might be the spring as you said, lucky bugger wish the nosie that mine made the same day was so easy.

I keep wondering if it was something I haven't checked yet. It's driving fine. Could have been the left side engine mount as they do go fairly soon from the heat of the exhaust. Also XJs tend to twist in the body a lot as they have no separate chassis. Still have to check it out. I'm driving back to Cairns in 2 months so I want to make sure all is good before I go.
